The restaurant sits up on a hill (as you can see from the last picture which, by the way, was taken after the sun went down) and they have an outdoor patio where you can dine, drink, relax and view a lot of Orange County. You can’t really capture the entire beauty of the sunset in a picture but I had to try so I could share with it you. They have good food and great service. The girl in the picture (Pamela) brought us our “take-home” food that we left at another table. They sure do take great care of you. Thanks to our waiter Chuck and hostess Pamela for helping to make our evening a memorable one, as always.
Orange County Mining Company has “reduced priced” appetizers and drinks from 4 – 7 pm Monday – Friday, with a view that can’t be beat. I bet you will agree when you go and experience it for yourself. You can reach them by going to their site at www.orangecountyminingco.com or by phone at 714.997.7411. One important tip when you do go and enjoy the sunset and all that The Orange County Mining Company has to offer, bring your night riding glasses. It is dark when you leave. Enjoy!
After a long vacation, we, at Orange County Leather are back and busy at work. We visited a Bike Night last night and had a great time and we wanted to share with you. It is called the Starting Gate at 5052 Katella Ave in Los Alamitos (across from the race track). Great Food, Great People, Great Fun! A new place to go to meet new people and run into the ones you know is always fun to find. We mentioned food – they have daily specials and last night was a burrito or spaghetti. We all went for the burrito and decided it was a great choice! They had drawings for a Big Screen TV, a model of a ’99′ Fatboy (which we won!), T-Shirts (which we won two of), a blanket (which a lady that asked us to read her tickets because she forgot her glasses won), a ton of other prizes and the grand price was over $400 in CASH! A very fun night!
Ashley, our waitress (pictured above) was a kick, she not only cooks great, but she is a joy! Thanks Ashley for putting up with us
We got ready to leave and realized that everything outside was not only damp (including our seats), but it was cold! This is when I remind you, even on warm nights, wear your Leathers (or at least bring them along, which we didn’t do) for the ride home. Visit the Starting Gate and all the wonderful people there and HAVE A GREAT TIME!
It’s not the Ride – It’s the Journey! We’ve all heard this phrase, but do you realize the truth in it? Take time to stop when you see something interesting. You never know what you might find, who you might meet or what experience you might have and that’s what it’s all about, the experience … the journey.
We were riding up the coast one late morning when we saw this little hole-in-the-wall restaurant. We decided to stop and have some lunch. We had so much fun with the new friends we made there that we all ended up riding to another place to have dinner! We got home that evening at 10:30. Always be prepared so you can enjoy your ride to the fullest. Remember to pack extra Motorcycle Gear in your Saddlebags because sometimes you never know what time you are going to make it home and you want to stay warm. Good food, great company and an immeasurable amount of fun. What a great day that was. We still keep in touch with the friends we made that day. Enjoy the Journey!

Sun Glasses are as important for the ride as any other motorcycle gear you may wear. Your eyes are the window to the soul, take care of them. A great pair of Sun Glasses not only keep any items that may be flying around in the air out of your eyes, they will make for a more comfortable ride. They will also help you squint less so it may help with the wrinkles around the eyes. If you have ever ran into a swarm of something while riding, believe me, you will be glad you have something covering your eyes.
We all want to have the most comfortable ride possible, so it is imperative that you wear all the gear you need to keep yourself save and secure. A safe ride is the best kind of ride, right? So make sure you don’t forget your Sun Glasses to keep the glare at bay. Enjoy the ride.
Living on the California Coast gives us plenty of beach choices. A ride to the beach is always an awesome ride, and this last time was no exception! We decided to go to Balboa Pier and have lunch at Ruby’s on the pier. The walk out to the end of the pier was clear and beautiful. You use the usual dialog with the people on the pier that are fishing … “Catch anything?”, you normally get the same response, “Not Much Today”. Any way, we got to Ruby’s and naturally sat on top (out in the open) where you get the breeze and the best views. We were kicking back enjoying lunch when we noticed dolphins, TONS OF THEM, it was great! My friend, visiting from Las Vegas, is convinced the dolphins must be paid to put on such a show. The truth is, you don’t always get that great of a show. Most of the time you don’t see anything, although, over the years we have seen plenty of birds, dolphins, seals, fish jumping out of the water and even whales.
Good thing we had on our Leathers because it sure got chilly out there! Always a worthwhile trip. Enjoy the ride!

We are always looking for that special gift without too much expense, right? We, at www.OrangeCountyLeather.com, have a lot of gift ideas at great prices. A couple of my favorite items to give are Flasks and Cases. An engraver can very easily engrave the items for you to add that personal touch. These are items that will be treasured and used for a long time and will be a constant reminder of who gave the gift. You can find flasks under Miscellaneous Accessories and Cases under Wallets, Purses, Pouches and Cases.
The cigarette case will keep your cigarettes on the straight and narrow so they don’t get bent and broken like they do in the cardboard case they come in, not to mention, the style they show. The flasks will hold that bit of whatever you may need to wet your whistle while on the road. Both, are very thoughtful gifts. Enjoy browsing the links.
THERE IS NOTHING LIKE A RIDE ON THE MOTORCYCLE! How many people before us and how many people after us do you think will utter that phrase? The numbers would be astounding! I sincerely hope we pass on the love of riding on to our children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and on and on. The freedom and peace you feel while on a motorcycle is unmeasurable … you could even say priceless, right?
Pictured here are some of our future bikers (Sananah, Irelyn and Mason). Savanah, the oldest in this picture and the one sitting in front with her hand on the handlebars, loves to ride! Her parents are not that excited about her excitement. A real enjoyment for us is to take our grandchildren for rides and see how excited they get. We are looking forward to getting them their own Kid’s Leathers when they are able to ride more than just around the block.
We had a great Easter Sunday and hope you did too. Our day started with a Sunrise Service (6 am) at the Mausoleum of Christian Heritage Forecourt, Forest Lawn in Covina Hills, California. Our Pastor, Darrell McGowen, delivered the Easter Message and , as always, did a spectacular job. The people in blue at the top of the stairs were The Southern California Mormon Choir, who sang beautifully. The entire life of Jesus was painted on the huge wall that was before us at the top of the stairs behind the choir. What a sight to see and an awesome place to welcome in a new day.
Then on to the Easter Egg Hunt! We hid eggs everywhere, even on the motorcycle. The motorcycle pictured had 10 eggs hidden on it and you couldn’t openly see but two. This is not the customary accessories that you see on a motorcycle, I know, but it was fun anyway and Ashley had a good time looking for them. Orange County Leather has a small, but growing line of Motorcycle Accessories that will look a lot better than Easter Eggs, we promise. Enjoy browsing our site.
I was walking along when a person stopped me and told me they liked my shirt. I had to take a glance at what shirt I had on and realized it was my ‘Forgiven’ top. I responded with “Thank You, I like it too”. This top says FORGIVEN (with John 3:16 below the writing) on the front of the top and IN GOD I TRUST on the back. We talked a bit and then moved on. It’s nice to meet someone that has the same views as you do and it is nice to be able to express yourself without saying a word. Keep in mind, although I have never had it happen to me, that you may run into someone that doesn’t agree with you and have a comment as well.
But hey, that’s why it is an honor to live in the GRAND OLD U.S.A. where we can express ourselves freely. One of the best ways to show your personality and sometimes even your views are the patches you choose to wear. We hope you take the time and enjoy browsing our huge line of Patches.
Sunday we visited “fifteens”, a pretty good-sized bar in Anaheim. They hosted their first Bike Night. As we expected from a first bike night, there were not many people there when we arrived. In their defense, we did arrive at starting time – 4 pm, and as you know, no one is ever on time. We settled in to enjoy the live band and had a drink. Within a couple hours, the place was packed (standing room only) and were we glad we arrived early to get a great table with chairs! It is apparent that we all needed another Bike Night!
The manager (Kelly) came around with tickets for a Free Drawing just as we were leaving (prior commitment later that evening). Anyway, while we were there, we meant some nice people and had a good time. We will definitely go next month. Strap on your Motorcycle Boots and give them a try next month on the first Sunday of every month. For more information about “fifteens”, this link will take you directly to our California Rides and More page at www.OrangeCountyLeather.com.
*Joker and Candy Land (cute name, huh?) posed for me under the “fifteens” sign.
Everyone loves LasVegas, Nevada right – gambling, casinos, shows, restaurants, night life and shopping? For us, however, we have friends that live there so we don’t have to pay for a place to stay and we share the expenses of food while we’re there. Less expensive yes, but still, not an inexpensive trip. There are just too many places to go, too many shows, too many places to dine, and just too much to see. We seem to always make the time to look at Jewelry and Accessories and especially stop long enough to enjoy a nice motorcycle at the LasVegas Harley Davidson.
It’s fun to add accents to your attire and we seem to find something everywhere we go. The hunt is half the battle, but when you find that one thing that makes you smile, it makes the hunt worthwhile. Never stop looking for what makes you happy. It seems to be a constant effort sometimes, but it’s worth it when you get there. Enjoy the ride.

A quick get-a-way for us is Cooks Corner in Trabuco Canyon, California. Cooks Corner is a place where bikers get together, look at each others bikes, listen to music, eat and enjoy each others company. It’s a beautiful ride down Santiago Canyon Road with all the wide open space to look at. You can even make a stop and pick mistletoe right off a tree if you don’t mind the climb. We used to camp at a park just down the street (O’Neal Park) when we were kids. We had such fond memories that we brought our own kids camping there too.
We always go when it’s warm, which is most of the time. It’s nice to be able to wear our Leather Vests on occasion without the weight of our jackets. All-in-all, it is a perfect small escape for us. Relaxing, laughing and enjoying a few drinks with old friends while making new ones, who could ask for more? Enjoy the ride.

We recently had our 14th and 15th grandchild (both boys!) and I can’t wait for them to ride with us. Just because they are still too small and can’t ride for a few years didn’t stop us from buying them their Kids Leathers with a Grandpa’s Riding Buddy Patch on their jackets. Our older granddaughters, as well as our grandsons, enjoy riding and man do they look cute in leathers. My one grandson grew out of his leather jacket and let me know he needed a new one. They do enjoy being part of your world so don’t forget to include them. The worst thing that could happen for us is that they might be afraid to ride and afraid of the bike. Always reassure them that they are safe in their leathers and especially safe with you. Enjoy the ride.
There is nothing better than a long ride. Away from the hustle and bustle of daily life is an experience waiting for all of us. We just have to make the time to get away and enjoy what is out there. Taking a ride up the coast is one of our favorite things to do. We ride until we get tired, hungry or find something of interest to stop for. The people and things you see along the way is worth the ride by itself, but there is so much more than that.
The wind blowing in your face is rejuvenating, but the wind blowing and pushing up your pant legs isn’t. Boot Clips are a great solution to this airy problem. Clip them on and no more riding up of the pant legs. The freedom you feel on a ride is immeasurable and the peace you have when you return is priceless! Enjoy the ride.
One of our favorite places to ride is to Julian, California, a little old mining town just 60 Miles out of San Diego known for their apples and everything you can make with them. The town itself hasn’t changed much, you can still walk down the streets of the little town and have the feel of days gone by.
The ride down was awesome – very warm and beautifully clear. Our days in Julian were great too. We always stay at a Bed & Breakfast named the Julian Gold Rush Hotel (the oldest, continuously running historic hotel in Southern California and located in the heart of downtown Julian). At night we had Tea Time with scones and cookies. On Sunday morning, while sitting at a wonderful breakfast consisting of home-made oatmeal , Eggs Florentine, fruit, breads, teas and coffee, it started to rain. We had no choice, we had to leave for home and back to the grind. We were sure glad that we remembered to pack our Rain Suits that we had never worn because of being in sunny California. The Rain Suits sure made it a more comfortable ride, dryer too. Enjoy the ride.
One of the most important items you can add to your Motorcycle Gear is Motorcycle Glasses or Goggles. It is extremely important to protect your eyes. Lets face it, it wouldn’t be much fun if you couldn’t see the sights around you clearly while on a ride.
We have had many instances where if we weren’t wearing glasses, we would have hindered our sight immensely. While on a ride to Las Vegas, Nevada from Orange County,California we ran into a terrible dust storm – so bad we had to pull over. Because we couldn’t see where we were going, stopping did help but the dust was so heavy that without our glasses we would have been in big trouble. All I can say is we won’t ever be without our glasses again, not even for a small putt to the store. Enjoy the ride.
When you ride, it is all about safety first. Motorcycle Gloves seem like a small thing but if you’ve ever been in accident, you know how important they are. They are just as important as jackets, helmets, boots or any other motorcycle gear.
You are riding along, hit gravel and slide – Bike goes down – first thing you do, as you do anytime you fall, is put your hands out to break your fall. Your hands will definitely pay the price for not wearing gloves. A good pair of gloves will protect you from falls, rocks, weather and flying bugs (if you’ve ever ridden through a bee swarm while riding you know what I mean). Keep yourself safe and warm and enjoy the ride.
Even when you don’t have a lot of money, you can add small additions to your bike. Motorcycle accessories include a lot of different items. You can find everything from a cargo net to hold those small things from a short trip to the store, to items to protect you and your bike.
An item that is always fun to buy and give is a bell for a bike. It is believed that a small bell on the bike protects the bike and its riders. Bells should only be a gift, not obtained by you personally. So, if you have a friend that just got a new bike, give a bell as a first accessory. An inexpensive, small gift that means a lot.
When you buy your motorcycle saddlebags, you want to make sure they are strong and anchored correctly. Bags that are attached incorrectly break down fast and won’t be much help to you. So, once fastened to your motorcycle, check them regularly as you do the other nuts and bolts of your bike. They will last a long time with the proper care.
Your bags make a huge difference in what you can take along with you or bring home from a destination. They are also great to keep your jacket, gloves, scarf, etc. safe when you stop somewhere. Your tool bag holds the tools you may need on the road. Being prepared and safe on the road is the key to a fun and worry free ride. Enjoy the ride!
The Great River Road byway begins in Minnesota and winds through Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Arkansas, and Mississippi. Though I’ve seen a great deal of the United States, particularly along the coast, I have not spent a great deal of time in several of the aforementioned states. We hope to change all of that and experience the local culture firsthand by touring the historical road on our motorcycle.
I’m particularly looking forward to taking some time out to see St. Louis and Memphis. The byway ends at the Louisiana state line, but if I have some time, and if my motorcycle boots can take it, I think I’ll continue on Highway 61 to New Orleans. It’s one of the greatest cities in the world. It’s culture is so unique – a melting pot that can only exist in America.
The Grand Canyon was high on my list of “places I must see before I die.” This past spring, I finally checked the Grand Canyon off my list. I took a week long motorcycle road trip to northern Arizona with a few of my close friends. It only cost us $12 apiece for seven-day passes. This is a definate "MUST SEE-MUST EXPERIENCE!"
We then threw on our motorcycle gear and made for historic Route 66. With my leather motorcycle vest and old school goggles I felt like I had traveled back in time- especially when we got to the original two lane sections of the highway. The nostalgia continued at the charming 1950s era Wigwam Motel in Holbrook, where we spent the night.
Last summer friends, my husband and I embarked on a West Coast motorcycle adventure. We wanted to see all sorts of wonders, both natural and manmade, that the United States has to offer. On our list of must-see places was the Giant Forest in Sequoia National Park in California.
Specifically, we wanted to see General Sherman, a giant sequoia that is the largest known living single stem tree on Earth (by volume). When the day came for us to don our leather motorcycle jackets and ride to the park, we could not contain our excitement. General Sherman did not disappoint. We channeled Ansel Adams and took an astounding number of photographs that are now framed and hanging on our living room wall.
As part of their West Coast adventure, a couple of our friends paid a visit to Yosemite National Park. In addition to being avid bikers, they are avid rock climbers. Yosemite is well-known for its boulders as well as El Capitan. They didn’t need too much cycle gear to get them to the park, so they had plenty of room for their climbing shoes and ropes.
They camped out at Camp 4 which became known post-World War II as a rock climber hang-out. The first two days they spent bouldering, including scrambling on the Columbia Boulder. Later on they climbed The Nose, one of the original climbing routes of El Capitan. Tina chose to hang back as her ankle was hurting, but she got some fantastic photos from the ground. Check out the view.
My nephew always considered himself somewhat of a lone wolf, so a motorcycle always seemed like an appropriate personal conveyance. In the last couple of months, however, he begun seeing someone, and she was less than enthused about the prospects of riding on the back of his bike. Conversely, he was none too excited about being seen driving around in her purple PT Cruiser either.
In order to reconcile this transportation quandary, he decided to search for some motorcycle accessories to make her feel a bit more comfortable. After doing some investigating, he found a great device known as a "Butt Buffer" along with a few other things. Not only the items provide her with a comfortable rear end, but they also afforded extra support and security.
Road rash and flesh wounds can be prevented by wearing leather motorcycle chaps. Sizing can vary by manufacturer, so it is important to know your measurements. To properly size motorcycle chaps you need a pair of jeans, a tape measure, and a notepad.
Start by putting on a pair of jeans that you would normally wear for riding, as leather motorcycle chaps are meant to be worn on top of jeans. Next, measure your waist, your thigh at its largest point, and your inseam (all in inches). Note these measurements in your notepad and compare your numbers to the numbers listed by the manufacturer to determine which size chaps are best for your body.
While some people scoff at wearing a helmet, anyone who has been in an accident would say that wearing a helmet is essential. The truth is that helmets save lives, even if they don’t look all that fashionable. Whether you’re riding a bicycle around the neighborhood or riding your motorcycle down the highway, a helmet is necessary for safety. Not wearing a helmet can result in not just a citation from a law enforcement official, but also extreme trauma or damage to the head. Just like wearing a seat belt is essential in a car, a helmet is essential for bikes, motorcycles, and ATVs. Motorcycle helmets are now more advanced and more comfortable than their predecessors. But no matter what kind of motorized vehicle you’re using, it’s important to wear a helmet.
Despite jabs at being unfashionable, most helmet models are streamlined and aerodynamic . In addition, you can find a wealth of different helmets that feature cool decals. There’s always one to suit an individual’s style!
The past few weeks there’s been a new motorcycle insurance commercial running during various sporting events and it’s caught my attention. An unmanned motorcycle is seen crashing in slow motion and the voiceover in the background is saying something to the effect of “motorcycles never crash alone.” As a habitual motorcyclist, I have to say this advert hit pretty close to home.
I mean, even if you are covered by insurance, that’s no solace to your body during a crash. In my opinion, one of the best insurance policies for any motorcyclist is a high-quality set of motorcycle gear. Not only do a leather motorcycle jacket, motorcycle vests and graphically enhanced helmet look amazing, they can prevent serious damage during a spill as well.
The adrenaline rush of riding the motorcycle is just one of the aspects that make the experience unique. Riding on the back of a bike will be a memorable moment for any child. Although this heart-pounding thrill ride will be exhilarating, you want to be sure that everyone is safe.
Normal biker gear isn’t designed for children, so it is important to make sure that you have equipment that fits your child properly. Kid’s motorcycle riding jackets are an essential, not only for warmth, but also in case of a spill as well. Before you put you kid on the back of the bike, make sure you’ve taken all the measures to ensure their safety.
With all the technological advancements to cell phones of late, it seems like more than half the people on the road are using a Bluetooth headset while driving. While having a Bluetooth headset might be practical for a drive, for a motorcyclist who wears a helmet, a standard bluetooth headset can become quite uncomfortable, and in most cases is impractical at best. However, motorcyclists shouldn’t be left out of the latest technology trends, which is why the Bluetooth motorcycle helmet headset was developed. This headset is designed for use with a motorcycle helmet, and allows motorcyclists to speak on their cell phones while riding. These Bluetooth motorcycle helmet headsets are great for long trips or short trips, and are a must have for motorcyclists.
Some of the reason to own a motorcycle is to feel free from the constraints of a traditional automobile and also feel independent. But for those circumstances when you just have to have a conversation, a Bluetooth motorcycle helmet is an excellent option!
Last summer a friend of ours purchased his first motorcycle, and it has not only been a thrill for his wife but for the entire family. At first his wife was little hesitant to hop on the back - now she begs him to take her for rides. Their oldest son also is constantly hounding him to take him for leisure trips as well.
Although he is more than comfortable on my motorcycle, I was reluctant to let me oldest heir on. After some contemplation, they decided that it would be ok. Of course they took all of the necessary precautions, like buying him a well-fit helmet and his own kids motor cycle riding gear.
When riding a bike, it is important that you keep yourself protected from the dust and grime. You must wear protective clothing gear, such as motorcycle chaps, to prevent dust, grime, and sand from accumulating on your clothes, particularly your pants. They also protect you from the cold weather. In addition, a pair of chaps can also be an added protection in cases of motorcycle falls.
Most chaps are made of leather. Leather is a versatile material and is very durable. That is why it is quite popular in motorcycle outfits. Some chaps are made with the combination of leather and spandex for a more comfortable fit. Other protective gears that a bike rider must have are, of course, a durable helmet, a pair of gloves, and a jacket make for essential cyclegear.
When we first started riding motorcycles in the early ’70s, we were really only concerned about looking cool. We never wore a helmet and rode with only a light t-shirt on. Luckily we were never involved in an accident, and now we"ve learned to tone down our "devil may care" lifestyle.
Now that we're grandparents, we know we need to be a responsible role models for the little ones. Although we still ride my hog whenever we can, we now have a full supply of motorcycle safety gear. It certainly took some getting used to, but with the amazing innovations in unique motorcycle helmets and other protective equipment, I’m more comfortable than I’ve ever been before.
8/12/2011 - FASHIONABLE MOTORCYCLE JACKETS

This one pictured is made from premium split cowhide leather and some are studded with durable metal hardware.

08/10/2011 - PINK MOTORCYCLE GEAR IS ADDED TO OUR LINE!
Pink motorcycle gear will set you apart. You still have the protection of leather, but you have added some excitement to your look as well.
Be sure to browse the pink selection that we have to offer. We are hoping that it will be a good addition and we hope you enjoy it.
08/09/2011 - HALLOWEEN MOTORCYCLE GANG
One year for Halloween my son wanted to dress up as a motorcycle gang member. He talked all of his friends into doing the same thing. The problem was that we were having a really interesting fall that year and it was still pretty warm out. Anything leather was going to be hot, especially if it was a jacket.
We decided to get a leather motorcycle vest instead of a jacket. It was light weight and still had that motorcycle gang feel to it. The vest, along with the bandana on his head and the big boots made him really look the part the part. All the kids looked great and had a good time.
08/08/2011 - A VERY VERSITILE PIECE OF CLOTHING
In the world of fashion, few things make quite as bold a statement as leather. A heavy and dark material, it doesn’t matter if it comes in the form of a jacket or a miniskirt. Designers have used this knowledge for years to create daring and bold looks. But if you’re looking to incorporate leather into your everyday fashion repertoire, make sure that it’s not overdone. With that bold of a look, it’s best to wear just one accent piece.
For this reason, a men’s leather vest can be a surprisingly versatile thing to have in your closet. Not only will it prove useful if you’re ever cruising around on your motorcycle, but it will also serve as a great accent to any outfit. For a casual look, pair it with jeans. And for a more eclectic look, pair the edgy look of leather with a more formal outfit. However you wear it, leather can help you make that bold statement, so make sure your closet isn’t completely devoid of leather.
08/06/2011 - NOT JUST FOR THE MOTORCYCLE RIDER
Women like to look fashionable. It doesn’t matter what project or activity that they are doing. If you’re a tom boy or a high fashionista, you are always conscience of what you look like. Styles come and go over the years.
One of the styles that have not gone anywhere is womens leather vests. Leather vests are not only for the motorcyclist. All women may wear leather vests to work as well as for casual attire. You can dress vests up as well as dress them down.
08/05/2011 - A MOTHER AND HER MID-LIFE CRISIS
My mother had a very strange mid life crisis. She decided to buy a motorcycle. She wanted the wind in her hair. I told her to get a scooter, but that wasn’t happening. She always wanted a motorcycle.
I wanted to make sure that she was fully prepared for her new venture. I really wanted to make sure that she had all the right type of gear. Safety was a concern of mine. Her concern was looking good. We went online and typed in motorcycle gear and found quit a bit of things. Cool stuff for her and still safety gear, so I wouldn’t worry as much.
08/02/2011 - TENNIS SHOES ARE NOT AN OPTION
If you are choosing to ride a motorcycle, safety plays a huge factor. It doesn’t matter if you are on the freeway or down a dirt road. There is no reason why you should not be completely prepared. It doesn’t matter if you are a new rider or have been riding for years.
Motorcycle riding boots are not an option that you can ignore. Tennis shoes don’t give you the protection that boots do. They can easily slip off if you are in an accident. Boots also help to keep your ankle in place preventing dislocation of your ankle.
07/26/2011 - A SUMMER ADVENTURE
Now that summer is almost h |
